Private Midwifery Support in London.

Private midwifery support that meets you where you’re at, whether you’re having your first baby or growing your family.

I’m here to offer personalised one-to-one antenatal and postnatal support that fits neatly alongside your NHS midwifery team.

Having been a London midwife for well over a decade, I know that the NHS does many things brilliantly. I also know there are moments where you might leave an appointment wishing you'd had a little more time and a few more answers…

And when the next question pops into your head, I’m the person who’s there to talk it through, ahead of the game and already aware of your story.

My role isn’t to tell you what to do. It’s to help you understand your options, explain the evidence behind them, and be there for you while you find the solution that’s right for you and your family. Whether we’re talking through birth scenarios, preparing for life with your baby, or navigating the early days of feeding, we’ll work through it together.

How does private midwifery support fit in with NHS care?

Private midwifery support that meets you where you’re at, whether you’re having your first baby or growing your family.

Having a baby means meeting lots of different professionals along the way. While they all want the best for you, it can sometimes feel like you're starting from scratch at every appointment.

My hybrid model of private midwifery means you’ll still be able to receive NHS care. But you’ll also have another trusted person with you along the way, providing consistent support outside of NHS time constraints.

That continuity of care is at the heart of what I offer, making sure you’re guided and heard by someone who knows your story, values, and goals from beginning to end.

I can be there when you need:

  • Antenatal guidance and reassurance

  • Support with birth preparation and decision-making

  • Postnatal recovery and complete newborn care and feeding advice

  • Emotional and mental health support in pregnancy and beyond

Advocacy and navigating the NHS maternity system

I’ve been a midwife in London for more than a decade, working in both NHS and private settings. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some incredible private practitioners and can happily refer you to them. If you ever need support beyond my scope, I can put you in touch with a trusted network of professionals.

Pregnancy after loss or traumatic birth experiences

Navigating pregnancy after loss or a difficult journey through the maternity system can feel scary and uncertain. I’m here in your corner, ready to listen, and will work with you to help you feel safe and nurtured.

I have extensive experience in this field with my NHS role as a specialist midwife for mental health. Together, we can identify the areas you feel you need more support with this time round. Your mental health and wellbeing will always be at the forefront of my mind and I can help signpost you to other support services where relevant.

Understanding your options

It’s completely natural to feel confused about your pregnancy and postnatal options.

Ultimately, this journey is yours, and you deserve to have a full understanding of the options available to you.

This is a judgement-free zone, where we can discuss your questions without time pressure or agenda and carve out a path that’s right for you and your baby.

Preparing for birth

I’m here to help you think about how your birth might unfold and how to feel as prepared as possible.

We can explore aspects such as pain relief, types of birth, and how things may be approached if circumstances change when it comes to labour and birth.

Postnatal planning

The early days and weeks after birth can feel like a bit of a whirlwind.

To help you feel as ready as possible, we can develop a ‘postnatal plan’ and talk through what recovery might look like for you.

I also offer postnatal midwife visits to support you in those early weeks.

In their words.

"After a traumatic first birth without sufficient support networks in place I was desperate to find a steady voice, someone to answer my anxious questions and guide me through the newborn stage. Miranda is simply all that."

Midwifery FAQs.

Can you have a private midwife in an NHS hospital?

Yes, a private (or independent) midwife works outside of the NHS, so you can benefit from continuity of care and one-to-one support alongside your NHS care — not instead of it. Most private midwives offer antenatal and postnatal care, and many also support you around birth. For example, they may be able to travel in with you if a home birth transfers to hospital or be there for your hospital birth alongside the NHS team leading your care. The exact support services included depend on the midwife, so it’s always worth checking directly. Please note that my private midwifery packages focus on birth preparation and postnatal care. I don’t offer on-call birthing support.

Is 4 weeks too early to get in touch with a midwife?

Not at all. You can get in touch with me at any stage of your pregnancy. I know that the early weeks can be some of the hardest, and it’s usually where you’ll get the least support from the NHS or private maternity systems. For full transparency, my pregnancy packages begin in your second trimester. However, my virtual services can start earlier if that’s what you need.

How much does a private midwife in London cost?

Private midwives in London all offer their own pricing. For details on my midwifery service pricing, please take a look at my service packages.

Do you need a midwife during pregnancy?

While it’s not technically a legal requirement to see a midwife throughout your pregnancy, it’s highly recommended. Whether you go the NHS route, seek a private midwife, or combine NHS care with my form of private midwifery, these are the people who will be there to provide antenatal check-ups, guide you through your options so you can make informed choices, and offer emotional support at every stage of the pregnancy and new parent journey.

How many midwife appointments do you have during pregnancy?

If it’s your first baby and you’re receiving NHS maternity care, you’ll usually be offered 10 antenatal appointments. You generally get seven appointments if you’ve had a baby before. You may also be offered additional appointments, scans or consultant reviews depending on your medical history or if any issues arise during pregnancy. (See the full NHS schedule of routine antenatal care appointments for more details). If you get support from a private midwife, you can benefit from additional appointments and check-ins.
