Lactation Support Services in West and South West London.

Personalised lactation, bottle, and private breastfeeding support to help you feel confident and empowered as you nurture your baby.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the sea of conflicting feeding advice that’s swirling about, you’re not alone. I’m here to offer you some firm ground. My aim is to help you understand your options and find the feeding route that works best for you and your baby — whether that’s breast, bottle, or a combination.

As an IBCLC-certified lactation consultant, I can guide you as you prepare for bottle or breastfeeding and find your rhythm once your baby has arrived.

Whichever path you choose, I’ll be here as your sounding board, ready to offer non-judgemental reassurance, answer any questions you may have, and confidently navigate any challenges that arise.

Whatever feeding looks like for your family, you don’t have to do it alone. Learn more about my lactation support services and packages in London.

Who can benefit from private breastfeeding support?

How you feed your baby is incredibly personal. Your relationship with your child is unique, and so many factors can influence the feeding route you take.

My private lactation services might be just what you need if…

01

You’re expecting your first baby and wondering where on earth to start with breastfeeding.

02

You’ve previously experienced challenges with latching, pain, supply issues, or a triple feeding nightmare.

03

You think, or have been told, that your baby has a tongue tie and you want to make sure they’re getting the nourishment they need.

04

You’re confused by conflicting (albeit well-intentioned) advice from loved ones and want some impartial, evidence-backed support.

05

You're planning to express and give your baby the occasional bottle, wean from the breast, switch to a bottle, or return to work.

Healthcare professionals, friends, family members, pregnancy books… even random strangers… It can feel like everybody has an opinion on how you ‘should’ feed your baby.

And even when it comes from a kind place, inconsistent (and often outdated) advice can create confusion and doubt.

Beyond making sure your baby is healthy and nourished, I want you to feel confident in your decisions and enjoy breast or bottle feeding your little one.  Feeding time offers a beautiful opportunity for bonding, and guidance from a local lactation consultant in South West London can cut through the noise and help you get the best experience as your baby grows.

Conflicting information remains one of the greatest barriers to reaching your breastfeeding goals.

What can a lactation consultant help with?

I will always meet you where you’re at, no matter where you are in your parenting journey.

If you’re curious about the differences between breastfeeding and bottle feeding, have concerns over your baby refusing a bottle, or simply need a bit of reassurance that what you’re experiencing is totally normal, I can be there with a listening ear and over a decade of experience as both a private and NHS midwife.

Some of the key areas I can support you in include:

Breastfeeding preparation

Preparing to breastfeed before your baby is born is one of the most helpful things you can do — especially if you’re a first-time parent. It can feel like a whole new world! I can guide you through what to expect and how milk production and your baby’s feeding instincts work.

This type of antenatal support is so important for making sure you feel confident in the first few days and weeks. It’ll also help you know when to ask questions if you have any concerns.

Latching and positioning

I want to reassure you that not getting the ‘perfect’ latch right away is completely normal. I also know that latching difficulties can be frustrating and painful.

I can be there to guide and adjust you so you can find more comfortable and effective feeding positions, improving your baby’s latch and ultimately help make breastfeeding feel more sustainable.

Breastfeeding pain or discomfort

More commonly than not, latching or positioning can be the cause of breast or nipple pain. Discomfort in the early days is very common, and I can help you find the root of the problem.

Together, we can work on a plan to reduce any pain and make breastfeeding as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for both you and your baby.

Navigating breast engorgement or mastitis

I can also support you if you experience breast engorgement, blocked ducts, or mastitis. These inflammatory conditions can be very painful and disruptive.

With the right support, these conditions can often be very manageable, and you don't have to navigate them on your own. As a qualified midwife and IBCLC, I have the clinical background to offer timely support, improve comfort, and minimise further complications.

Using breast pumps or nursing aids

From nipple shields to breast pumps, there are various tools and nursing aids available to make breastfeeding or expressing more comfortable. However, some are downright unhelpful!

And using them at the wrong time can sometimes create new challenges. This is why choosing the right option for your situation matters. I can help you adjust to them and put a clear exit strategy in place when the time comes.

Tandem feeding

Feeding twins or nursing a new baby alongside an older sibling can feel like a (literal) juggling act.

Whatever the circumstances, I can be there with you to help you balance the needs of each child while making sure you feel comfortable and supported at all times.

Milk supply concerns

If you’re worried that you’re producing too much or too little milk, we can talk through the possible causes and come up with a way to manage it.

Wherever you’re at, I’ll be there to offer reassurance and put a realistic, evidence-backed plan in place, tailored to both yours and your baby’s needs.

Growth concerns

I know that slow growth and low weight can be worrying. It’s natural to feel anxious, but together we can put a feeding plan in place to get you and your little one back on track.

As a midwife and lactation consultant, I can look at the whole picture, from pregnancy to now, to work out what may be limiting growth.

Feeding a premature baby

Babies born earlier than expected may find feeding more challenging. You might benefit from private breastfeeding support to create and put a gentle yet structured feeding plan in place in those early weeks.

If you’re pregnant and know that your baby is going to be born early, we can work on a plan before birth to make sure you feel supported and confident in starting your breastfeeding journey.

Handling colic, reflux, and allergies

Reflux and colic are common in babies, and how much they affect your baby is often changeable. Together, we'll address contributing factors to make feeding more comfortable and enjoyable for you and your baby.

If you're worried your baby is reacting to something you're eating, we can work it out together, carefully. Unnecessary elimination diets are hard on mothers, so I'll look at feeding first. Where something more is going on, I'll help you get the right medical input alongside your GP or a paediatric dietitian.

Bottle refusal

Whether you’re bottle feeding from birth or looking to introduce a bottle while breastfeeding, it can be frustrating and worrying when your baby won’t take a bottle.

Together, we can address any issues that might be causing bottle refusal and establish a plan to gently bring you both back to a place of reassurance and comfort.

Tongue-tie challenges

Tongue-tie and oral dysfunction can have a huge impact on how your baby latches and feeds. As an accredited tongue-tie assessor (The Infant Feeding Academy), I am qualified to assess and consider the cause of your baby’s feeding difficulties and guide you through your options.

Whether you choose to opt for tongue-tie surgery or not, we can work on helping your baby latch and feed comfortably in the meantime.

Weaning off the breast

There are many reasons you might want to stop breastfeeding or move to bottles. Going back to work. Feeling ready. Or simply because it's been harder than you expected and you've had enough. And all of these reasons are good enough.

It’s a very personal decision, and I’ll be there to offer gentle guidance on how to make the switch safely and reduce the chance of commonly associated issues such as mastitis.

Lactation after pregnancy or baby loss

Experiencing lactation after losing a baby can feel devastating. I’m truly sorry for your pain and grief, and understand that having to think about dealing with milk production may seem impossible.

I’m here to guide you through your options, which might include suppressing lactation, or expressing and donating your milk. I will be there to support you as you find the solution that feels right for you. Your mental and emotional wellbeing will always be at the forefront.

This service is free for anyone needing this kind of support.

Lactation and breastfeeding FAQs.

How do I get a better latch when breastfeeding?

Latching can be a tricky thing to navigate, especially in the early days and weeks. With support from a lactation consultant in London, you can look at finding the most comfortable and effective position for your baby to latch and feed effectively.

What does IBCLC mean?

IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant: the gold standard in lactation care worldwide, and the only internationally recognised qualification of its kind. On top of my midwifery training, it took 95 hours of lactation-specific study, 1000 hours of clinical practice, and a rigorous exam. Keeping it means recertifying every five years. It also means I'm bound by the WHO Code on the marketing of breastmilk substitutes, so nothing I tell you is shaped by a formula or bottle brand.

Can medical conditions affect my breastfeeding experience?

Yes, it’s important to know that some medical conditions and procedures can affect breastfeeding. Examples include: Breast surgery (including augmentation, reduction, biopsies, and lump removal) Polycystic ovary syndrome Thyroid disorders Endocrine (hormonal) conditions Treatment for cancer Fertility issues Certain medications (while very few are truly contraindicated with breastfeeding, it’s always important to let your antenatal and postnatal healthcare team know of any medication you are taking.) If you have any concerns at all about these or any other conditions, please reach out to me. We can talk through your medical history and put a supportive preparation and feeding plan in place to help you feel comfortable and confident.

Does fixing a tongue-tie help with breastfeeding?

Sometimes. The evidence is more mixed than the internet suggests, and tongue-tie is currently over-diagnosed. I'll assess how your baby's tongue moves and how they feed, look at what can be changed without a procedure, and give you an honest view on whether division is likely to help. I also work alongside a network of other practitioners, including osteopaths and chiropractors, and I'm happy to point you towards people I know and trust if that's something you'd like to explore.

Where do you offer lactation support services?

My lactation and private breastfeeding support is available for families in South West and West London. I cover lots of locations in this region, from Acton to Wandsworth, so take a look at my map to see if you’re in my catchment area. And if you’re close by, please contact me in case I have the space and time to support you.

In their words.

"Breastfeeding has become one of my favourite aspects of motherhood, and I couldn’t have done it without the preparation, empowerment, and support I received from Miranda."
