My Qualifications, Accreditations, and Professional Registrations.

Choosing someone to support you through pregnancy, birth, and feeding is an incredibly personal decision, and one you shouldn’t take lightly.

Of course, you want someone kind and reassuring, but you also want to know that the advice you’re receiving is grounded in evidence and experience.

Healthcare doesn’t stand still — neither do I.

As a registered private midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in West and South West London, I have over a decade of experience in bridging the gap for families between NHS and private care.

My qualifications.

BSc Biological Sciences

Before training as a midwife, I completed a degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.

My degree gave me a deep understanding of how the human body works and responds, and it laid the physiological foundations that continue to support my approach.

BSc Midwifery with Registration as a Midwife

My first-class midwifery degree from Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care, King’s College, London provided me with the clinical knowledge and practical experience required to become a registered midwife in the UK.

Combined with more than a decade working within NHS maternity services, it has allowed me to support women through pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period with compassionate, evidence-led care.

International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

The IBCLC credential is the highest internationally recognised qualification in lactation and breastfeeding support.

I have undertaken advanced education, clinical practice, exams, and recerts specifically focused on helping families overcome feeding challenges.

Accredited Tongue-Tie Assessor

My training as an Accredited Tongue-Tie Assessor enables me to recognise when tongue tie may be contributing to feeding difficulties.

I ensure families receive timely assessment and onward support as required.

KGH Diploma in Hypnobirthing

My KGH hypnobirthing diploma gave me the tools for the part of birth nobody prepares you for: what fear does to a labouring body, and how to work with it rather than against it.

Breathing techniques. Relaxation. Language that steadies rather than frightens.

You don't need a particular kind of birth for it to be useful.

Mental Health First Aid

Training as a Mental Health First Aider has strengthened my understanding of the emotional challenges many parents face during pregnancy and after birth.

I recognise when someone may need additional support, and approach every mental health conversation with compassion and sensitivity.

Rewind Technique for Trauma & Phobias

My training in the Rewind Technique has given me a deeper understanding of how trauma can affect daily living, decision-making paralysis, and emotional well-being in pregnancy.

Optimal Birth (Biomechanics for Birth)

Training in birth biomechanics has enhanced my understanding of how maternal movement, positioning, and baby’s positioning in utero can influence labour and birth.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Alongside my formal midwifery and lactation consultant qualifications, I am a huge advocate for Continuing Professional Development. Learning ensures that the care I provide reflects current advice and best practice.

When I make a recommendation, you can feel confident that it’s informed by the latest research rather than outdated advice.

FAQs.

Why is NMC registration important when it comes to choosing a private midwife?

The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) regulates all practising midwives in the UK. My NMC registration means I meet the strict professional standards required to provide safe care.

Does a private midwife have the same qualifications as an NHS midwife?

Yes. Private midwives complete the same professional midwifery training and must remain registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). Many also choose to undertake additional specialist qualifications, like I have in infant feeding, tongue tie, hypnobirthing, and maternal wellbeing.

Will you work alongside my NHS team?

Absolutely. My role as a private midwife and lactation consultant isn’t to replace your NHS care but to complement it. I will provide continuity, evidence-based guidance, and personalised support alongside your existing maternity team through my midwifery support services.

What is an IBCLC?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is the highest internationally recognised qualification in breastfeeding and infant feeding support. To achieve this status, I have received a specialist education, undergone extensive clinical experience, and survived a rigorous examination process!

Are you professionally insured as a private midwife and IBCLC?

Yes. I hold professional indemnity insurance through the Royal College of Nursing and Holistic Insurance. You may also be offered additional appointments, scans or consultant reviews depending on your medical history or if any issues arise during pregnancy. (See the full NHS schedule of routine antenatal care appointments for more details). If you get support from a private midwife, you can benefit from additional appointments and check-ins.
